Learn the trade by doing the work, not just reading about it.
Electrical work is learned with your hands. At HCI, hands-on lab time is a core part of the program, not a supplement. You work on wiring panels, conduit installation, motor control circuits, and residential wiring mockups while you build the theory, code knowledge, and troubleshooting skills behind them. Small classes mean personal attention as you progress.
Half Your Hours Spent in the Lab
At least 420 of your 840 clock hours are lab time. You work hands on with real wiring panels, conduit and residential and commercial installations.
Classes That Fit Your Day
Choose a morning or evening section and train four days a week, Monday through Thursday, 5 hours a day.
A Toolkit That Goes Home With You
Finish the Electrical Technician program and you take home your own toolkit to keep, a graduation gift from HCI.
Small Classes, Personal Attention
Small class sizes and hands-on labs are part of HCI's ACCSC-accredited career training environment at the Southwest Houston campus.
Seven Modules From Electrical Theory to Solar PV Installation
Two foundation modules in electrical theory, the NEC, and blueprint reading open the way to five 120-hour wiring and installation modules.
- ELC101: Introduction to Electrical Theory, the groundwork for every module that follows
- ELC201: The National Electrical Code (NEC) and blueprint reading
- ELC301 and ELC401: Basic residential wiring methods, taught in two parts
- ELC501: Commercial wiring methods and conduit bending
- ELC601: Commercial and motor control wiring
- ELC701: Solar photovoltaic system design, implementation, and installation
- Electrical safety and OSHA practices, plus troubleshooting and diagnostics
